The Importance of Daily Invocations

Why the morning and evening adhkar are essential in the life of a Muslim: protection, blessings and consistency in the remembrance of Allah.

Azkars-

Adhkar: A Fortress for the Believer

Daily invocations (adhkar) constitute a true protective fortress for the Muslim. It is no coincidence that the reference book of invocations is titled "Hisn Al-Muslim" (Fortress of the Muslim). These Prophetic words form a spiritual shield against visible and invisible harms.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never neglected his daily invocations. He recited them consistently in the morning, in the evening, before sleeping, upon waking, and on every occasion throughout the day.

Morning and Evening Adhkar

The two most important times for invocations are:

  • Morning: after Fajr prayer until sunrise
  • Evening: after 'Asr prayer until sunset

Among the most important invocations for these times:

  • Ayat al-Kursi: the Prophet said that whoever recites it in the morning will be protected until the evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will be protected until the morning
  • The last three surahs (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas): recited three times in the morning and evening, they suffice as protection
  • "Bismillahi lladhi la yadurru ma'a ismihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i": three times in the morning and evening, nothing can harm the one who utters it

Protection Through Invocations

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) compared the one who abandons invocations to a fortress without walls. Adhkar protect:

  • Against the harm of creatures: jinn, the evil eye and sorcery
  • Against daily misfortunes: accidents, illnesses, trials
  • Against the heedlessness of the heart: dhikr keeps the connection with Allah alive and present

'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a companion was suffering from an ailment. The Prophet taught him to recite the morning and evening invocations, and he was no longer afflicted by that ailment.

Consistency: The Key to Success

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most beloved deed to Allah is the one that is consistent, even if it is small." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Here is how to develop consistency in adhkar:

  1. Start small: if you are not used to it, begin with the essential invocations (Ayat al-Kursi, the three protective surahs)
  2. Associate them with a fixed time: for example, right after every Fajr and 'Asr prayer
  3. Use a tracking tool: the Azkars app offers a counter and history to help you stay consistent
  4. Do not get discouraged: if you forget one day, resume the next without guilt
  5. Teach them to your loved ones: reciting together as a family reinforces the habit and multiplies the reward

The Fruits of Consistency

Those who persevere in their daily invocations witness remarkable fruits:

  • A more serene heart, less prone to anxiety
  • A feeling of protection and trust in Allah
  • Better concentration during prayers
  • A stronger connection with the Quran and the Sunnah

Adhkar are not mere mechanical words. They are conversations with Allah, requests for protection and declarations of trust in Him. Take the time to understand their meaning to gain the maximum benefit.
