Wa wassaynal-insana bi walidayhi, hamalathu ummuhu wahnan 'ala wahnin wa fisaluhu fi 'amayni anishkur li wa li walidayk, ilayyal-masir.
And We have enjoined upon man regarding his parents - his mother carried him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years - Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final destination.
Virtue
Quranic verse reminding of parents' sacrifices, especially the mother's, and commanding gratitude toward Allah and toward them.
Tafsir
In this verse, Allah recalls the mother's suffering during pregnancy and nursing, and commands the human being to show dual gratitude: toward Allah first, then toward one's parents. Gratitude toward parents is inseparable from gratitude toward the Creator.
