Umrah Steps
The 4 essential steps of the minor pilgrimage
Ihram - The State of Consecration
The pilgrim enters the state of Ihram at the Miqat (designated place) with the intention of performing Umrah. He performs Ghusl, perfumes his body, wears the two white cloths (for men) and recites the Talbiyah.
Key points
- Perform Ghusl (major ablution) and perfume the body (not the garments)
- For men: wear two unsewn white cloths (Izar and Rida)
- For women: regular covering clothes, without niqab or gloves
- Formulate the intention of Umrah in the heart
- Say: "Labbayka 'Umratan" (Here I am for Umrah)
- Repeat the Talbiyah abundantly until the beginning of Tawaf
- The same Ihram prohibitions apply (no perfume, no cutting hair/nails, etc.)
