Invocations after Asr prayer

1
Al-Baqarah (2:255)

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnih. Wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma. Wa Huwal-'Aliyyul-'Adhim.

Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them. And they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Virtue

Whoever recites it in the evening will be protected from the jinn until morning.

Tafsir

Ayat Al-Kursi is the greatest verse in the Quran. It affirms Allah's absolute oneness, His sovereignty over the heavens and earth, and His infinite knowledge. Reciting it in the evening places the believer under divine protection from all harm and from the jinn until the morning.

Al-Baqarah (2:285-286)

Amanar-Rasulu bima unzila ilayhi mir-Rabbihi wal-mu'minun. Anta Mawlana fansurna 'alal-qawmil-kafirin.

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, saying: We make no distinction between any of His messengers. And they say: We hear and we obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination. Allah does not charge a soul except with that within its capacity. It will have what it has gained, and it will bear what it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.

Virtue

Whoever recites these two verses at night, they will suffice him.

Tafsir

These last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah summarize the Islamic faith: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. They contain supplications asking for forgiveness and relief from burdens. The Prophet ﷺ said they suffice whoever recites them at night, ensuring divine protection and sufficiency.

Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad. Allahus-Samad. Lam yalid wa lam yulad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.

Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.

Virtue

Reciting it 3 times in the morning and evening suffices against everything.

Tafsir

Surah Al-Ikhlas equals one third of the Quran because it summarizes the foundation of pure monotheism (Tawhid). It affirms that Allah is One, Eternal, without offspring or origin, and without equal. Reciting it three times in the evening provides complete protection and renews the believer's conviction in Allah's oneness.

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.

Virtue

Reciting it 3 times in the morning and evening suffices against everything.

Tafsir

Surah Al-Falaq is a protective surah revealed to seek refuge in Allah from four types of evil: the evil of creation, the darkness of night, sorcery, and envy. Reciting it in the evening serves as a spiritual shield against the dangers of the night and invisible harms.

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.

Virtue

Reciting it 3 times in the morning and evening suffices against everything.

Tafsir

Surah An-Nas seeks refuge in Allah as the Lord, King, and God of mankind from the retreating whisperer (Shaytan) who breathes evil into hearts. It protects against temptations and evil thoughts. Its evening recitation purifies the mind and seals the believer's nightly protection.
